Activate a Kid Friendly Search Engine
In this modern day, it is not really a big surprise for kids to play around their gadgets and discover Google. Furthermore, your kids definitely see you using the search engine when searching. And given that they are kids, it makes them curious and check out the page themselves. As soon as they know how to use it, they’ll be Googling everything that they could find from games, answer for their homework, watching funny and interesting videos and a lot more.
There are cases to which kids might be taking a wrong turn when using Google and could end up in the dark side of the internet, something that they shouldn’t be in the first place. Some kids might stumble innocently on inappropriate contents while others are intentionally seeking it. No matter what is the reason for why this happened, parents have got nothing else to do but to think of how they can stop their little ones on searching and visiting these websites from Google.
But don’t fret because Google is a powerful search engine and it integrated various parental control features. For this, parents are now able to implement these features and reduce the possibilities of finding useless websites by their kids. Let’s look closely at some parental controls that Google has which can be activated to protect your children’s curious minds.
The Google SafeSearch is among the major options for parental controls that Google offered to filter the search results. The explicit contents are filtered by SafeSearch so they won’t reach the results page. It is designed mainly to get rid of sexually explicit material both videos and images as well as violent content.
To be able to activate SafeSearch, there are just few steps that must be done and these include:
Step number 1. As you go to Google’s Search Settings preference section, put a check within the box that says “Filter explicit results”.
Step number 2. To lock the setting and stop your child from turning it back on, click the link saying “Lock SafeSearch”. To ensure that you will be able to get this done on first try, make sure that you are logged in to your Google account because if not, the modifications you made won’t be recognized. However, if you have two or more browsers running on the system, you have to redo the process for each and every single browser. Furthermore, if you have different profiles on your computer, you have to do it on that browser as well. Just be sure that cookies are enabled.
